Job Description
OUTREACH SPECIALIST
Job Duties:
- Participate in outreach strategies to identify and serve affected individuals, groups, and the community
- Provide emotional support, to include assistance with identifying coping skills and stress management techniques
- Provide educational information and resources
- Assist with development and implementation of psycho-educational and/or support groups
- Assess, refer, and link individuals or families to additional disaster relief services including behavioral health services as needed
- Participate in activities to build positive relationships with community resource organizations, faith-based groups and other local agencies
- Assist with distributing educational material to disaster affected areas
- Attend scheduled meetings with team
Skills:
Able to complete tasks independently and will seek supervision when needed
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Previous experience in providing disaster behavioral health and/or crisis responses to survivors and victims of major traumatic and catastrophic events
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments inherent to disaster response
- Demonstrated capability to provide active listening and supportive feedback to those impacted by disaster
- Demonstrated familiarity with similar community support agencies to provide clinical and resource referrals as necessary
