Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tool and Die Maker to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of toolmaking practices, precision machining, and die construction, with the ability to lead complex projects from design interpretation through final build and maintenance. This role requires a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, and problem-solving, as well as mentoring and supporting junior team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, build, assemble, repair, and maintain precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures used in production.
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools including mills, lathes, grinders, and CNC equipment to fabricate precision parts.
Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings to ensure accurate production of tools and dies.
Conduct inspections, measurements, and adjustments to maintain tight tolerances and ensure quality standards are met.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues with tooling and dies to minimize production downtime.
Perform preventive maintenance and modifications on existing tooling to extend lifespan and improve performance.
Collaborate with engineers, production staff, and quality teams to optimize tooling solutions.
Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior toolmakers and apprentices.
Ensure all work complies with safety standards, company policies, and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade school certification or associate degree preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of tool and die making experience in a manufacturing environment.
Advanced knowledge of machining, heat treating, metallurgy, and precision measuring instruments.
Proficiency in CNC programming and operation is strongly preferred.
Strong blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) skills.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently on complex projects and lead by example.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Standing, walking, and working with hands-on machinery for extended periods.
Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
